Reents Technologies GmbH has developed and manufactured a tailor-made front panel for the shipping industry. This component is part of a ship’s bridge and includes not only the front panel itself, but also special fasteners for circuit boards (PCBs), inlets for switches and a programming interface. The aim was to create a functional, durable and adaptable product that would meet the high demands of shipping.

Aim of the project

The main goal was to develop a front panel that would serve as an insertion into the ship’s bridge. Both technical and aesthetic requirements should be taken into account. The faceplate had to accommodate various electronic components while being robust enough to withstand the harsh conditions at sea.

Technical implementation

Additive manufacturing

    • Procedure: FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)
    • Materials: PETG and ABS
    • Advantages: The FDM process allowed us to create rapid prototypes and make flexible adjustments during the development process. In particular, the choice of materials contributed to the high level of detail and strength, which is crucial for use in the maritime environment.

CAD Design

  • In close cooperation with the customer, we developed the CAD design of the front panel and the brackets. Precise specifications and special requirements for the placement of switches and interfaces were implemented.

Development process

The development process began with the creation of a prototype, which was designed based on the customer’s requirements and the conditions of use. The prototype has been extensively tested to ensure that it meets practical requirements. Different materials and designs were tested to find the best solution.

Special features of the front panel

  • Integration of switches and interfaces: The front panel has been designed to allow for easy assembly and interchangeability of components. The inlets for the switches have been precisely positioned to ensure intuitive operation.
  • Lettering and brand logo: To facilitate operation and reflect the customer’s corporate identity, the front panel is covered with a special foil. This film is not only used for labeling, but also bears the brand logo, giving the product a professional and appealing look.
  • Choice: Depending on the area of application, the front panel is made of either PETG or ABS. PETG offers high impact strength and chemical resistance, while ABS stands out for its robustness and temperature resistance.

Series production and customization

After the prototype was successfully tested and approved by the customer, the product went into series production. At Reents Technologies GmbH, we attach great importance to ensuring that each product not only meets the technical specifications, but can also be individually adapted to the needs of our customers. Therefore, we offer various customization options, whether in terms of materials, colors or specific fastening solutions.

Success story

The project has been successfully completed and the front panels are now being mass-produced. Thanks to our flexible manufacturing and in-depth understanding of the requirements of the shipping industry, we were able to deliver a product that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The customer was particularly pleased with the ability to continuously adapt and optimize the product to meet increasing demands.
